My essentials lists for Baby Number two

Oliver was far from being an easy baby/toddler. He cried non-stop for the first few months and didn´t manage to sleep through properly until he was four years old as by the time I worked out he needed a better routine and suffered from growing pains (and still does) it was too late to do anything but invest in some tough love which was grueling for all of us!

There are so many things I didn´t do or buy with Oliver that I wish I had, and other things I bought or did that I wish I hadn´t.

So, I thought I would show you what has been my essential list this time around after having had one non-sleeping, hyper child, just in case number two is the same!

Maclaren Universal Footmuff • Maclaren • £50

Dooky Hoody Car Seat Hood – Silver Stars • £16.99

Dooky Sunshade – Silver Stars • £16.99

Recaro Privia Group 0+ Baby Car Seat, Graphite • Recaro • £135

Maclaren Techno XLR Stroller, Black/Silver • Maclaren • £350

You can now buy a carrycot that fits perfectly on to the Maclaren. I had such a heavy and expensive pram the first time around which caused hernias on my spine so this time I wanted something light and flexible, having used the Maclaren when Oliver was a toddler and finding it a God send for my back! For car seats, I always buy Recaro as they are one of the safest on the market and have an incline so baby isn´t slouching forward when he falls asleep (saves you stopping the car every five minutes to hold their head up.) The sunshade is a must here in Spain. I tried every umbrella under the sun for my prams and they either broke quickly or didn´t cover baby enough. This sunshade is the perfect remedy to this as recommended by lots of Mummy friends.

Baby sleep essentials

Sleepyhead Deluxe Cover, Pristine White • £39

Sleepyhead Deluxe Portable Baby Pod, White • £99

Lionheart Original Bear- Amazon

Fisher Price Open Top Swing- Amazon

I got the Sleepyhead Pillow as a Baby Shower gift from the girls. I think my first baby found it a real struggle to be in such a large space like a cot after such a compact womb, and this is a perfect solution. I will also be swaddling him with a Love to dream swaddle which allows baby to lift his arms above his head to sleep. The Lionheart Bear will save all the recordings of white noise I did for Oliver to get him to sleep, and as Oliver was a baby who loved movement, I have got a second hand Fisher Price swing (yes you grab hand me downs with open arms for number 2) to soothe him when he needs it. The first time I bought a static BabyBjorn chair that was meant to rock (without batteries or electricity) with babies movements- fine for feeding and sitting still but nothing else.

Baby Play time

Mamas & Papas Baby Snug With Playtray • Mamas and Papas • £54.99

Milestone Baby Cards • £12.99

Taf Toys Clip On Pram Book. • £9.99

Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo • Fisher-Price • £89.99

I was constantly bouncing Oliver on my knees, or anywhere I could so this time I´m saving my back the work and got a jumperoo- yes I know they take up a lot of room! I had a bumbo the first time around and I can say I am happier with the Mamas and Papas chair which seems to come more highly recommended. I also would recommend baby floor mats with arches and toys above them for smaller babies. I did buy a pack and play the first time around but Oliver hated it and it really was a waste of money for us. The Milestone cards are a must as you will regret looking back and not having captured those moments.

Bottle Feeding essentials

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Perfect Prep Replacement Filter • Tommee Tippee • £8.99

Tommee Tippee Perfect Prep Steriliser Machine, Black • Tommee Tippee • £79.99

Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Electric Steriliser Kit • Tommee Tippee • £59.99

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Insulated Bottle Carriers. • £7.95

Dr Brown’s Natural Flow Polypropylene Bottle, Pack of 2, 240ml • Dr Browns • £12.95

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Feeding Bottles 2 x 150ml • £5.99

Mamas & Papas Millie & Boris 3 Pack Large Muslin Squares • Mamas and Papas • £19.99

I breast fed Oliver for seven months and when I moved on to bottle feeding there was nothing similar to the above around and I found myself up and down the stairs making bottles all night and waiting for the bottles to reach the correct temperature. I am a big fan of both Tommee Tippee and Dr Brown bottles as they seriously do help with colic and reflux. I have set up the bottle maker already and agree with customer reviews that the beeping when the bottle is done is loud and annoying, so this is staying in my room rather than in the nursery. It is however very quick and the bottles come out at the right temperature. Word of warning, this doesn´t dosify the milk for you, you have to do that yourself.

These are ofcourse only some of my baby essentials, and I will be updating as I try anything new out to let you all know whether the prodcuts were worth it or not. Right now, these are all products I either used the first time around and loved or that I wished I had bought as they would have made my life a lot easier and believe me, with a baby, that’s half the struggle!

Let me know what you bought the second time around and whether there was anything that made life with two bubbas easier!
