36 week bump update

Wow, 36 weeks, where has the time gone? Even these hellish last couple of weeks on the sofa seem to be going by pretty quickly!

I thought I’d share with you all some of my latest bump pictures and do a quick question and answer!

Got to love the pointy boy bump and sticky out bellybutton!

Here are a few questions and answers about this pregnancy for those who are curious:

Sex of Baby: It’s boy number two – obviously a lot of testosterone in this house!

Weight gain: 10 kg. That´s seriously good for me considering I have been off my feet for so long and I put on twice as much in my first pregnancy.

Diet: During my first trimester I could barely eat, my second I was starving and my third trimester I have really had to control myself as it´s so easy when you are sitting around all day just to keep picking. What I didn’t do this time was eat for two and I tried to keep my protein levels up to avoid being hungry and thus snacking.

Here is a smoothie recipe I have been drinking a lot recently that you might want to try out if like me you´ve completely gone off meat and need some protein.

Exercise: I started Pilates really late in this pregnancy due to complications in my first trimester but I am soooo glad I did it. I think my back would have gone long before if I hadn´t exercised and I felt a lot more energised and fit this time around. If it weren´t for my back I would have carried on doing pilates until the birth but as it is I have had to stop this last month.

Sleep: I find myself getting sleepy late afternoon and if I don´t nap, which I usually don´t manage to do, I find myself falling asleep on the sofa really early at night. I cannot get comfortable right now so sleeping during the night is near on impossible, added to which I constantly need to pee now that baby is so low down and the braxton hicks seems to start around 4 am for about an hour until they die off.

Symptoms: Braxton hicks are out of this world right now. I can have a whole afternoon, a couple of hours or an entire day! Baby feels really low now and plug already seems to be coming away TMI. I´m also a lot more emotional this month and nesting has really kicked in.

Thoughts: Looking forward to getting my body back, and being able to move around freely. Dreading the continued sleepless nights but so excited to meet our new little man. Also worried about how to fit my work schedule and Oliver´s school schedule around the newborn or vice versa! Any tips VERY welcome!

  1. Wow – it sounds like you are doing GREAT! I started doing Pilates (10 minutes a day on my son’s XBox) last summer and – amazingly – I haven’t had to visit the osteopath since. Definitely a convert. I take afternoon naps and I haven’t even got a pregnancy excuse! I do homeschool my kids though so the sanity breaks are definitely required.
    I cuddled my cousin’s 8 week old baby boy yesterday … am quite envious of all the newborn cuddles you have in store! Hope all goes really well for you. xx

    • Hi Lucinda, I can imagine how tiring homeschooling is and I really admire you for it! Pilates has definitely been a game changer for my back so I’ll be getting straight back to it after baby is born! x

  2. Gorgeous bump! I am very jealous, I have had five babies and never had the slightest bump – I’m a medical marvel, ha!! You look amazing though, I hope that this little one doesn’t keep you waiting too much longer! xx

    • Ah thank you! That’s amazing that you’ve never had a proper bump after five, especially as people keep telling me how compact mine is haha. Hopefully we can meet him soon! Thanks for stopping by x

    • Wow, four! I am one of four and I do honestly wonder how my Mum did it- I take my hat off to you. I would love to have more although I’m not sure my back could take it and I can see this time around the huge strain a pregnancy is on our bodies! So worth it though x

  4. You look fab. I love the pointy belly. 🙂 My second pregnancy is six years ago and I seem to have forgotten a lot. What I do remember for both times though is that I was getting very impatient. It’s so hard to move around in the end and I just wanted to meet the little someone inside. You’ll soon be there…

    • Ella, I had forgotten everything from Oliver this time around, although I didn’t panic about things so much this time. I am definitely at the impatient stage now and Nacho is convinced I’m making myself have the contractions, I want the baby out so bad haha. xx

  5. Great post, it’s so nice to read the experiences of other pregnant women. I am 31 weeks pregnant and already feeling really heavy lower down. My midwife tells me the baby’s head is engaging and everything is softening in preparation for the birth… It’s very exiting but I’m also a little nervous as this is my first. I’ve been doing yoga which has really helped my back and hips, much like Pilates did do for you. Congratulations and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. 😊

    • Oh wow 31 weeks, that is so quick for baby to be engaging! They don’t tell you here how engaged baby is but you can just tell can’t you because you start walking like John Wayne haha. I think exercise is so important with pregnancy, although I wish in my last weeks I had worn a hip support belt as Pilates made my hips open at double the speed which my Physio told me is part of why my back has gone. If you haven’ t looked in to one I would def recommend it for the last stretch. Good luck to you too and although it’s all daunting now you’ll see how when the time comes, your body will just know what to do! xx
